Tippecanoe County Rental Property Owner and Manager Training Course, “Keeping Illegal Activity Out of Rental Properties” is now open for registration.

Project Safe Neighborhoods Rental Property Owner and Manager Course

Sessions will be held in the
Grand Prairie conference room
Tippecanoe County Building, 20 North 3rd Street
from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

This program was developed by the Tippecanoe County Prosecutors Office to help fight crime in our community. Go to this website link for more information about the FREE training offered and lets all help to fight crime http://www.tippecanoe.in.gov/PSN or below to see if a class is coming up. 

ü    The course is offered free of charge and advanced reservations are required.
ü    
Participants who complete the 2-day evening course will receive

o     a copy of the 200-page manual
o    
a certificate of course completion from PROJECT SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS; Pat Harrington, Tippecanoe County Prosecutor; US District Attorney, Northern District of Indiana, and the US Department of Justice.

ü     Rental property owners, managers and staff (maintenance, office, leasing) are encouraged to make their reservations for the program early, as class size is limited.

The PSN Rental Property Owner and Manager Training Program course includes Federal, State and Local law and provides instruction on Preparing the Property, Code Requirements, Applicant Screening, Ongoing Management, Apartment Watch/Promoting Community, Warning Signs of Drug Activity, Clandestine Labs, Crisis Resolution, The Role of the Police, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Resources to Use Today.

Tools such as Neighborhood Associations and Crime Watch Programs (maps and contact information), Sample forms (Fair Housing and Section 504 Policies, Reasonable Accommodation Policy Statement, Verification Form of Need for Accessible Unit, Residents' Reasonable Accommodation Request Form, Criminal History Policy, Crime Free Lease Addendum, Facsimile Applicant Rental Verification Form, Post Rental Application Verification Form, and Property Maintenance Checklist for Rental Property Owners/Managers); and Community Resources (Tippecanoe County Law Enforcement agencies contact listings, Tippecanoe County Fire Departments, City of Lafayette and West Lafayette Government Resources) are provided.
Two supplementary presentations are also included:
ü       Illegal Drug Identification, Detective Dan Shoemaker, Detective, Lafayette Police Department
ü       Gang Identification, Pat Harrington, Tippecanoe County Prosecutor

The six-hour course is facilitated by Kathryn Redd, Project Safe Neighborhoods Anti-Gang Initiative Coordinator/Investigator.
